Few hours to the commencement of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Cameroun, Umea IK midfielder, Rita Chikwelu, has been named as the Super Falcons captain.
The Sweden-based midfielder has replaced Evelyn Nwabuoku, who has been left out of the squad to Cameroun, due to a foot injury.
28-year-old Chikwelu has been a senior international since 2007.
The Nigerian team will begin their title defence on November 20 against Mali, and are also expected to face Ghana on November 23.
Their final group game will be against Kenya on November 26, 2016.
The 21-member team which had been camping in Abuja since October 11 concluded their preparations with a 2-2 draw with Abess Academy on Monday and arrived Cameroun on Thursday.
