Uganda: Unending Crises Affect Makerere's Prestige
By PreciousCraftSite
Makerere University is my alma mater. I graduated 11 years ago after reading philosophy and political science.
I was paid for by the Ugandan tax-payer. But today I am a guardian paying for a student of environmental biology. I am deeply-indebted to Makerere. It offered me the intellectual and scholarly foundation that led me to the highest levels of academic training at one of America's most prestigious universities.
I had the privilege of mentorship and inspiration from a fine crop of scholars in the departments of philosophy and political science who I owe a great intellectual debt.
Hopefully, someday I will return to the place of my formative intellectual growth to offer a modest service and pay back to the Ugandan public that paid my tuition but also the community of scholars who taught and mentored me.
