Ajimobi Inaugurates Elders Forum For Reconciliation

The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, says the recent selection of elders from major stakeholders within the APC in the state was aimed at rejuvenating the party, as well as addressing all complaints properly across a broader 

Governor Ajimobi said this after inaugurating the new elders’ forum after several hours of a closed door meeting convened to foster greater harmony and address all rancour that ensued before the new caretaker chairmen were sworn in.

He added that the committee would key into the restructuring programme of the government and align all interests in that manner, putting the well-being of the state first at all times.

He further stressed that the newly constituted committee will ”rejuvenate the party. With this one, we will continue with our restructuring because now that we have a strong government, we must also have a strong party. That is the essence of this move”.

Reacting to the move, the All Progressives Congress in Oyo state described the composition and inauguration of Council of Elders of the party as necessary, to further solidify the mobilisation and crisis management machinery of the party at the grassroots.

The Director of Publicity and Strategy of the APC in Oyo state, Olawale Sadare, noted that the council, though not a creation of the APC Constitution, is purely an advisory body which was the initiative of both the governor and the Chief Akin Oke-led State Executive Committee.

“The council is not meant to replace the party executive committee at any level as being rumoured in some quarters,” Sadare noted.
